Many people take up at least one sport at their leisure. However, more people tend to choose one that is not too tedious or taxing to them. With courses spanning many yards of land, getting around each hole takes up a lot of energy. The golf cart was introduced to minimize the hassle brought on by lugging around a lot of things to finish the course. This vehicle has evolved to become something that could be used within the community one lives in. these neighborhood electric vehicles, as these are called, include golf cart bodies that enables these to be used far from the course.
The golf cart is a vehicle made golfers to carry around the stuff they need to finish the course rather walking, which in turn is the traditional way of carrying things and going through a course. These vehicles travel at low speeds. It also is low in both noise and air pollutants. Because of this, people began to notice that these vehicles would be beneficial for community traveling. The type used for this is called Neighborhood Electric Vehicle or NEV.
Neighborhood Electric Vehicles or NEV, technically classified as “low-speed vehicle”, is a type of vehicle that was developed from golf buggies. Compared to a regular car, these vehicles have special limitations such as roads that they could use and its speed regulations. It could be recharged using the standard home outlet, or could use both solar and wind power to generate electricity. Compared to their buggy cousins, these vehicles are equipped with seat belts or lap belts, reflectors, rear view mirrors, turn signals, and lights: running, head, and brake. Both doors and windshield wipers come as optional choices, though many manufacturers include these with the made product. The customization of the golf cart bodies of these vehicles depends on how one chooses to use it. It could be fitted with small carts trailing behind the main vehicle, more seats to accommodate passengers for tours, or generally just cruising around the neighborhood. The main appearance could also be altered. The body could retain its buggy-like quality but the owner could choose to recreate small trucks or cars for personalization. Nowadays, these vehicles are usually sold with car-like exteriors to accommodate a person’s needs in his daily life.
Communities have started to design their transport on these vehicles. Peachtree, Georgia has many paths for these vehicles. It is a popular way of transportation for high school students; one high school even has a parking lot for these vehicles. The same is true in The Villages, Florida. Some communities where mainland vehicles are prohibited use NEVs, such as: Santa Catalina Island, California; Bald Head Island, North Carolina; and Hamilton Island in Queensland, Australia. Other areas that have a large population using these vehicles include Celebration in Florida, Playa Vista in Los Angeles, California, and Lincoln, and Coronado, both of which are also in California. In Leaf Rapids, Manitoba, Canada, these vehicles are offered for free to prospective homebuyers.
With these vehicles constantly evolving, golf cart bodies and all, these new breed of carts may turn to be the vehicle-of-choice in the coming years.
